This is the basic area where the students the Gurukulam have a firm
foundation. They would have gained mastery in either of the four śāstrās viz.
Vyākaraṇa, Vedānta, Nyāya & Mīmāṃsā along with a thorough study of one
Vedic recession. The school of Vedic and śāstric Studies is established
recognising this advantage. This stream would be the fountain head from
where fundamental study and research takes place which could act as a
feeder to other selected areas.Vedic & śāstric StudiesSchools -
Śāstric studies need to have a contemporary orientation. The thought
process of the tradition must always inform and enlighten the current
socio-cultural discourses. The recasting of the new forms of social life,
value systems, ethics etc. must be informed by the churnings of the
Indic Knowledge Systems and not bereft of it. Hence this area seeks to
enrich the contemporary thinking by connecting it with traditional spirit
and vis-à-vis seek answers to contemporary socio-cultural problems
from the śāstric background.Culture and Contemporary StudiesSchools
Research
VVSS-CSCS is constantly engaged in literary research to understand Indian culture and infuse śāstric ideas and ideals
and research articles in reputed research journals.
Based on the outcome of this project, IA, SVS and VVSS-CSCS will jointly design and deliver a 45-hour online certificate course on Introduction to Vākyapadīyam: A Universal Model of Communication. In addition to helping modern seekers become familiar with Indic thought models, this project also provides excellent training for traditional śāstra students in paraphrasing Indic knowledge for contemporary relevance.
The course will be designed and taught by Prof. Nagaraj Paturi, a highly acclaimed authority on the subject and its modern applications.
It will tentatively be available for enrolling in early 2020.

As a first step in this direction, IA and MITSVS are sponsoring a 6-month shaastra mining project at Veda Vijnana Shodha Samsthanam from June 2019 to develop a detailed mindmap/conceptual index of “Vaakyapadiiyam” by Bhartrhari to be published on Vedavaapi.org. Vaakyapadiiyam is an acknowledged monumental thesis that propounded the world’s first and most comprehensive universal theory of communication in all its forms. Its theory of the fundamental nature of language and communication is at the core of Panini’s famous Sanskrit grammar treatise, Ashtadhyayi as well as Bharatamuni‘s famous treatise on the Science of Art, Naatyashaastra.
